Land and Sea

Time 2 go!

Well I’m off later today or in the morning. I’ll be going by the Palmerston atoll in case I need to stop. I’ll be passing Nuie, and northern Tonga (1500 miles) before heading for New Cal. I’m hoping to get into a good groove with decent weather so I can start packing away some of the 3000+ miles I need to sail in the next 6 weeks. There is no more time for screwing around and I need to put the miles under the keel. Next time I cross the Pacific I’m going to plan on taking 2 seasons, I’m not into this whole rushing thing.

A catamaran is supposed to arrive here in Bora Bora with the help of the French Navy after sending maydays for a few days, I guess it’s been pretty crappy out there. They are supposed to arrive in about 28 hours, I hope they are well.

The charts are still showing 10-12’ seas but the duration is spreading out and they are subsiding. It may be a bit uncomfortable for the first few days but these are the cards dealt. My friends on Zazoo just left and my other friends on “Emilia” are off today or in the morning as well. I really wish that my SSB was working so I could check into the net but it needs to go to a proper radio shop in Australia. Something is always broke on a cruising boat, it really is quite the juggling act. What I like so much about West Sails is the “Fix’s” are usually on the “want to” fix list, and not the “must fix” list. I’ve seen a lot of broken masts, steering (Liberty), booms, and other major things go wrong with boats in the past few months. My next boat will be simple!

I went to town this morning and spent my last $1,500 franks ($15.00USD) on cereal, bread and eggs. I’m going to give the bottom a scrub, check the engine fluids, and stow things. I have a few islands too keep an eye on the first few days of the trip as I’ll be sailing close to them then 500 miles of clear ocean to Palmerston. The diving in Palmerston is supposed to be unsurpassed with 1000’ of visibility and tons of fish. If I had more time I’d love to stop for a few days. That’s where Zazoo is heading.

Come to think of it I may wait till morning. I had a weird dream last night that I was in the army or something and I was caught up with some gory business and I’ve felt a bit off all day. I like a fresh start in the morning anyway.

Don’t forget to check out the new pictures in the gallery.

Peace, Love, and calm seas?

Namaste
