Land and Sea

making way for Tahiti

Well I’m off to Tahiti; the trip should take 7, or 8 days.

The sun is rising for me in the Marquises for the last time. It’s been an honor to spend time with these beautiful people in this magical place. This is what Tahiti was like 200 years ago I’m told.

I’m really bummed about my camera, and don’t rally have a choice about the Tuamotos. If I can’t film it, and I can’t spear/eat the reef fish (ciguatera), I might as well get going to the big city. After I get the camera sent off I may jump over to Moorea and hang out to edit. Don’t you feel sorry for me, can you feel my pain? ;-)

I got a really nice Yoghurt culture from Oriana on “Osprey”. I had my first batch for breakfast today, “yummy”. Hopefully I can keep this one alive for a while. I also bought 10 pomplimoose (wonderful citrus fruit) from a local farmer for fresh fruit for the trip. I also have a stalk of Bananas hanging in the cockpit.

I’m excited to use the new lure that Aki gave me; hopefully it will be a tuna killer. I’m going to check ebay when I get back for used reels. Most cruisers don’t use rods and just hose clamp a reel on each side of the boat. My reel is really small and I loose a lot of fish. I need a nice beefy deep sea reel or two for Namaste. If I can find a good deal on one I’m going to get it for my birthday. I’m also going to check for a used Iridium 9505 satellite phone, I’m surprised mine is still working.

I’m going to be saving every penny of the new DVD sales for a new motor. I’d like to go with a Beta Marine (Kubota) and install it in New Zealand or Thailand. I also want to take some time to attend to Namaste. A drawer is broken here, a latch there, and the cabin soul needs mending. If I go to New Zeeland I’m also planning on building a nice nesting, sailing, and rowing dinghy. I’m growing tired of the deflatable story. An inflatable is the most expensive piece of disposable equipment on a sail boat. I need to make a new floor for mine and attend to a leek in Tahiti.

Cheers everyone.

I’m going sailing in the South Pacific.
