I should have been focusing more on cooking during my trip. I have been all 2 willing to open a can of beans and eat it cold with a spoon or heat up a ramen. The thing is…, I’m a decent cook. Last night I made a really nice Pad Tia octopus over Japanese short grain rice with ginger. I tend to lean toward the Asian influences in cooking. I’ll give you all one of my cooking secrets, peanut butter and Chinese hot oil. Boil yourself up some rice or soba/udon noodles. Once cooked mix them with peanut butter and Chinese hot oil (the red stuff). Add shrimp, chicken, or octopus (mine is in a can), or squid and mix with bean sprouts and sesame seeds. You will be amazed how good it is. If you want something with a bit more of an American feel mix peanut butter with cooked spaghetti or other pasta and add diced peppers, pine nuts, beans and other fresh veggies. This makes a really nice cold pasta dish, you’ll love it, trust me.
The sun is out however there is rain to the north. I had a nice nights sleep but I’m getting out of bed really soar. I have spent 2 much time in the horizontal position. During much of the day I’m stretched out and reading. It’s hard 2 exercise with the motion of the boat, standing is also a chore.
I’m really looking forward to walking and getting a break from the motion.
I’ve been thinking of my voyage. I believe that the ocean is a great teacher and Namaste my classroom. Everyone gets a different experience, and perhaps the one we are meant to get. On the other hand I may have left a bit early in the season but that concept isn’t as romantic. During the last month I’ve been sick (not sea sick), and suffered 10 or so days of bad and wet weather. As of late my seas have been disturbed from the cyclones to the south, and the trade winds unstable. It is what it is, and I have learned some valuable lessons about myself and my boat.
I’m in the final stretch with just about 300 miles to go, I would think 4 more days at the most but I’ve been wrong many times in the past.
How lucky I am to be experiencing such a wonderful journey.
Take the bad on the chin and relish the good.
Peace, love, and life!
Alex
