Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how ridiculous instant oatmeal is? All it is, is oats in little packages with sugar and chemical flavoring for ten times the price. It’s really not that hard to take a handful of oats and throw in a handful of nuts, raisins, and sugar before nuking it.
That was random!
I didn’t sleep much. I had 3-5 knots from the stern. The wave action rolled me through the night. At one point I was on the floor with books and CDs on my head again. I really need to net my library or lighten it. I found myself growling at the mess as a mad dog might.
I was hoping to announce breaking the 1000 mile barrier this morning but the decrease in wind shows that I still have 66 miles to go, hopefully tonight.
As soon as the sun was rising I was trying to get my drifter up, before coffee, mistake. As soon as I raised the halyard the drifter flew to starboard, I rigged it for the port side. If we take into account the fact I never make mistakes, it must have been the wind that shifted, right? When I doused the drifter it got wet and went under almost pulling me off of the bowsprit. I have a nice rope burn on my left shoulder. I know I should have had my harness on! After getting everything in order and re-flying it on the starboard side I’m scraping 3.2kts out of 8, I guess I can’t complain. I’m usually quite graceful flying my drifter by myself. I guess the lesson is not to attempt it before being awake with coffee in my gut.
I was hoping to make the last 1000 miles in 8 days but perhaps not. I’m in no rush; I’ll easily make Hive-Oa before my friend arrives on the 28th.
I got an email from my friend Aki on
I hope everyone had a happy Easter.
Sail far and live slowly.
