April fools!

Rain rain go away come back some other day!

Last night about 03:00 I woke to a strange sound. I could not tell what it was as it woke me up.

A few minutes later I heard it again. A double key click from the VHF.

I jumped up and scanned the black and rainy night looking for a light, nothing.

I fired up the radar, the screen splotchy with squalls “I’ll never find a boat in this mess” I thought.

I grabbed the mic “Hello is anyone out there”?

A few minutes later “Mushi Mushi”. I replied with a crude hello and good morning in Japanese.

“2 fishie boat” he replied.

I came back with “sailing boat”, “aahhhhh schaling boat, harrow”, “Konetchiwa”!

That was the end of the conversation. I didn’t get much sleep after that, I checked the horizon every 15 minutes but never caught a glimpse of my new friends.

The seas have smoothed and the wind is down to 12kts, however the rain continues.

Perhaps I will see the sun today?

I guess I’m not alone out here after all.

Pease, Love, and “2 fishy boats”
