Man I can’t tell you how sorry I am to hear of Steve Irwin’s death.
Does anyone have the particulars on how it happened? I know it was from a large stingray, but how did it happen? I see, and hunt around large rays every day, and I catch them from the boat. I know a lot of people who suffer from stings after stepping on them in the water, and one killed a buddy of mines dog. I’ve never seen, or heard of one attacking though.
I know Steve really had a passion for the outdoors & nature the way I do. And if anything, I’m sure he died doing what he wanted to be doing which is really important.
My biggest fear is passing away in a hospital, or of old age. I believe in quality, and not quantity of life. My buddy Roger saw me swimming during a squall in heavy lightning. He said “you know you really shouldn’t do that, it’s dangerous”. My reply was if “I can’t swim in the sea with sharks, or during a squall, I might as be in a cubicle”, he understood. During a squall I take a shower on deck, lather up, and jump in the sea to rinse off the soap. The water seems warmer then usual due to the temperature of the air & rainwater. I then rinse again in the rainwater on deck, it’s an awesome shower.
Some guys from California (Bobby & Dave (on Baravey)) came into the anchorage yesterday. We stayed up drinking and telling stories of sailing the Channel Islands, and our home waters. Bobby (the captain) is really hung over, and David really needs to get to Contadora to catch a plane home. Dave is chartering Namaste for a trip to Contadora. A few extra bucks are always welcome. I don’t know if I’ll come back here or not. I need to be in Contadora on Friday to pick up my guest.
Man it’s a bummer hearing about Steve Irwin, I really enjoyed his work.
Cheers Everyone.
Peace, Love, and a toast to Steve Irwin.
