Land and Sea

Laundry day

Well I’ve been steadily working on the boat for the last few days. When I ran aground in Isla Linton, 10 or so months ago, the sand took off all of the bottom paint under the keel and the barnacles just grew, Grew, GREW! Yesterday I spend 4 hours snorkeling, scraping barnacles (really tore up my hands). The hull was in pretty good shape, but I had an extra 3 inches at the bottom of the keel. A big sea turtle was very interested in my hammering, and scraping underwater, he hung around for an hour or so, and got within 5, or 6 feet.

A bunch of the survivor kids got drunk the other night and let all the animals out of the hotels zoo. One big bird (Toucan I think) died, and there is still a big cat on the loose. All the monkeys were recovered, but what a nightmare for the hotel, they got in a lot of trouble.

My guest (Dan) is showing up in the morning, and I’ll be really happy to get out of Isla Contadora. The anchorage here really bites. The holding is no good and it’s exposed to the North. There is also a strapping current that runs down the shore. Namaste lays to current with her full keel and the wind almost always seems to be on the beam, creating a very uncomfortable roll. I decided to tie up to a mooring this time, what a mistake. The tire (Mooring ball) was covered in barnacles. And the other night when the wind was opposing the current (as usual) it was rubbing the aft, port side of the hull. It really did some damage to the gel-coat, lots of deep gouges. I know it’s just cosmetic, but you know, Namaste’s my baby.

I have to do some laundry (sheets) today, then I’ll do some more provisioning. As soon as my time with Dan is over I must go back to Panama City for a few days to renew my visa, ARRGGGGG!

Hope everyone is well.

Peace, Love, and Coconuts.
