Storm sail

Sailors often trade things. Today was a good trading day for me. I met a single-hander (Derik on Alaki) a few days ago.

Derik helped me find my anchor the other day. We dragged the bottom of the anchorage with a grappling hook until we caught my chain, I’m very pleased to have my chain and 40lb plow back. I went diving for it but there is 5 feet of silt in the anchorage and zero visibility, YUCK!

Derik has been looking for a single side-band receiver to listen to weather on. I told him I had and extra (My Grundig Yacht Boy), as I also have a single side band transmitter/receiver (Data Marine Sea 222). I wanted $75.00 for it, as I’ve been selling off stuff (Charts, books, wetsuits) for cruising money.

Derik saw that I have an extra track on my mast for a storm tri-sail and asked if I had a tri-sail. “Nope, no tri-sail, always wanted one” I replied.

Derik fled to his boat, and rapidly returned with a new tri-sail, “How about a trade”?

We hoisted the tri, and it fit Namaste perfectly. No extra cash, but I have a funny feeling I’ll end up using the storm tri-sail more then once.

I’m waiting for all of my test results back on Tuesday. I know that when I had the EKG my heart is only beating 40 times per minute. The doctor told me that 60 was considered low. Oh well, I guess I’ll get all the news on Tuesday. This health thing really kicked me in the pants. I don’t like visiting doctors as it’s very expensive, but I guess it needed to be done.

I bought another 20lb bag of Japanese rice today, and a big bag of wasabi. There better be some fish out there, my chopsticks are raring to go. ;)

I put up a recipe for Saki and apple juice wine in the goodies section. Some friends from New Zealand passed on the recipe, and said that “making wine onboard is very easy”. I’m planning on testing out the recipe when I get to French Polynesia, as I don’t have alcohol in my provisioning budget. If anyone knows anything about making wine, please share your thoughts.

I’m getting really excited, almost time 2 go!

That’s it for today.

Peace, Love, and home made wine.

Sail far, and live slowly, especially if you have a bad ticker ; )
