Feverish Blur

Boy, the last week has been a feverish blur. Many of you asked how the girl chasing was going, and it went quite well, however I can’t believe she is still around. I met this Italian girl (Daniela) in the San Blas about 3 weeks ago. We kept in touch via email as she was traveling around Colombia. She met me back here in Cartagena, we had a really nice first date, 2nd day, then BAM!!!!! I hit the ground like a charging rhino.

I think I got the Parasite from some peanut butter which I left in the sun during the passage from Panama. Anyway, wherever I got it, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I was on the boat with Daniela listening to music and having a cool beer, and 5 minutes later I was under a down comforter in a sleeping bag, with a blanket over me, shivering for life. My Fever went from normal to 40 degrees (104) in a matter of an hour. I was going to try and ride it out but I just kept getting hotter. I thought I might have malaria, or dengue fever.

Danny helped me out of the boat, and a friend drove us to shore. John, the manager of Club Nautico got us in a cab, and off to the hospital. I couldn’t walk very well; everyone says I looked really bad. John called ahead to make sure I got the best care.

I was only in the hospital for a few hours, but I don’t remember much of the following days. I spent 50 hours between my bed and the bathroom. I was expelling fluids much faster then I could consume them, I lost about 8 lbs. All I really remember is Danny giving me pills & water. At one point I remember hearing some music and was glad she figured out how to use the CD player.

I’m still pretty weedy, but getting better.

I had to use a lot of energy this morning as a Culio de Pollo (Spelling) “Chicken ass” storm hit at 5am. It wasn’t so bad, the wind under 30, but the holding ground in Cartagena Sux, I was worried about dragging, or being drug upon.

My buddy Jamie showed up in Cartagena yesterday, he had no storms from San Blas.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.

Peace, Love & Antibiotics.
