Alex is being lazy today-making me write the log again! Almost think he was the one on vacation!! Had a great day yesterday-tried to sail over from Chichime, but alas…no wind, so we had to motor. Beautiful warm, clear day. Small pod of dolphins came to check us out…really cool.
Heard a “crack” about halfway here. Looked to find what happened and discovered that the sun had caused one of our coconuts to break open. Being the resourceful sailors that we are, we drained out the milk, added sugar, fresh lemon juice and – you guessed it – some of Panamas finest rum- and had cocktails. Rough way to live!! Arrived at anchorage mid afternoon, and went fishing. No luck, but you should have seen the one that got away…delicious looking ocean trigger fish!
Since Alex knows everyone here we were invited to a cruisers party on another boat last evening. I was impressed by all the genuinely warm, friendly people we met, and their stories of the years of living, and adventure, at sea. One young couple and their two remarkable kids-ages 10 and 12- have been cruising for 5 years and hope to continue for 5 more. What an education for those two girls…what an accomplishment for their parents. So much for “ I can’t go cruising because of the children”!!
Being here is like living on a tropical island. Although I’m getting only a glimpse, I know what I’ll be doing when I get back. I will dare to live the dream.
