I’m in
A funny thing just happened to me on the way back from dinner tonight, and I’m still trying to catch my breath.
I decided to do a bit of walking after my meal. I came across a crowd of people who were all heated up about something; someone threw something across the street at a barricade of RIOT POLICE!!!!! Within a few minutes they were shooting tear gas at us, and charged!!! I didn’t really know what to do and figured I’d stay out of it until the guy next to me got cracked in the head with a Billy-club. My Spanish sux and I wasn’t going to stick around, I had 2 riot patrol guys chasing me with shotguns, the full plastic shields, bullet proof vests & all. I was tearing from the gas, but put myself in hyper drive and did my best “Speedy Gonzales” impersonation, I was out of there! I ended up hiding behind some cars. I got out my passport, held it up and ran over to a news crew before getting into a taxi. This was a major event, and I’m wondering if it makes American TV? I’m watching it on
I met the President of Panama about 6 weeks ago in Por Vaneer. He was on his yacht in the San Blas. He is not liked by the people. I spoke to my cab driver a bit. The president just changed the retirement age from 62, to 65, and it really pissed off a lot of people. I really respect these people for doing this though. He’s been making many changes, and the people just have had it!
The funny thing about Noriega is he was supposedly loved by the people, at least that’s what my taxi driver said. He said “Noriega did what it took to take care of the people”.
I’m not going to get into American politics, but I’ll tell you one thing. I don’t see our government with a CNN perspective anymore.
I’m off on a 5 hour chicken-bus ride at
Anyway, another interesting day at the office, I can’t believe I didn’t have my camera.
