Land and Sea

Cross Roads of the world.

Many consider Panama and the Canal Zone the crossroads of the world. There are many directions to travel from here and it’s often hard for one (especially me) to make a decision.

The Pacific is calling so loud I can’t stand it. I listen to boats sailing to the Galapagos, and the Marquesas every morning on the SSB radio. My mind wonders with images of the Pacific, good fishing, and long passages at sea. The reality is I can’t afford to go through the canal yet and I still need some solar panels to power Namaste’s autopilot (Quint), what to do, what to do….

I’ve decided to sail to Cabo Tiburon on the Panama/Columbian border, and work my way north-west through the San Blas archipelago. I’m going to document (film) the islands in detail, as well as the Kuna way of life. The Kuna are very hesitant on letting people take their picture and video is even harder to produce…, I do like a challenge though. The San Blas have been by far the best cruising grounds I’ve come across. The indigenous (Kuna) people are friendly, and the islands are the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. Hurricanes do not visit the San Blas, but the wet season is approaching, and lightening is a real problem. Each year a few boats get struck, and there are not many boats here so…., let’s hope my luck holds out.As soon as I sell enough DVD’s I’ll transit the canal, and cross the Pacific.

A few of you guys have requested info on chartering Namaste, and visiting the San Blas. If you’re interested send me an email to my Satellite phone (adorsey@skyfile.com). Please don’t send any attachments (text only), as bandwidth is limited and slow.

If you have time send me an instant message and say hi. The instant messages are free incoming to my phone, but expensive to reply. I reply to them from a land line so don’t take offense if it takes a wile, I will get back to you.

I’ll be in Isla Grande for a few more weeks before heading back to the San Blas. I’m editing some video segments for the new Latitudes & Attitudes TV show, I’ll let you guys know when, and where it will be airing.

I hope every one is well, don’t forget to live a little.
