1000 words!

“To know how to free oneself is nothing; the arduous thing is to know what to do with one’s freedom”

– Andre Gide

It’s hard to explain living with the Kuna in this magnificent place. Life here is so simple, slow, nourishing, and natural its hard to describe with words, perhaps this photograph will tell the story?

This is a photo of a father and son fishing. It’s hard to see but they have a line in the water. If you click on the image it will get larger. I took this yesterday as they were sailing into a squall.

Carla and I are getting back into the creative and slow space I spend much time yearning for.

Anyway, just a picture today.

Peace

  1. Gary,

I wouldn’t say wifi. It’s old cellular “edge” technology. It’s something akin to the old 14.4 modems, really slow and frustrating.

Shot a fat lionfish today and Carla and I had lion tacos for dinner, yummy!!!! It feels like the dry season is starting after a rainy finale over the past few weeks!!!

  2. Your quote is so incredibly applicable to nearly everyone I know (and ultimately, almost everyone in the industrialized world). It’s hard to believe that even cruisers I’ve met are bored, I mean bored stiff.
People can buy boats, cottages…whatever, but they can’t buy the inner freedom to be content just being there, even if it’s the paradise they’ve always hungered to reach.

Thank you for livening up my morning.
I think this deserves a film download, as soon as I finish the translation I’m working on at breakneck speek.

  3. Horacio,

I don’t get the bored thing either. Carla and I joked yesterday that we live in a “meditative” state out here. It’s easy to get to a cre8ive place and see life clearly away from the speed/time of society. I don’t know how much cruising you have done but I’ve noticed that the western cruisers (American, French, German) have a hard time slowing down especially if they went cruising late in their lives.

I’m noticing a trend in younger cruisers which really puts a smile on my face .

    Cheers M8

  4. Don’t know if you ever get to download movies these days, but if you do….Here is a trailer of a movie called ALAMAR, story about about simple life. A fisherman of Mayan ancestry, reaches a parting of the ways with his Italian wife, a painful decision for both of them. Perhaps as a farewell, their young son Natan Machado Palombini undertakes a journey with his father to the Banco Chinchorro, the largest existing coral reef on the southeastern tip of the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula.

I watched it on ALAMAR: on Hulu Cheers….
