I have an opportunity if I have any daring & spontaneous readers.
Carla is going to Miami on the 2nd for just over two weeks to visit Family. I’ve been planning on going to Linton in the next few days to do some shopping and drop Carla off, however she can as easily leave from here in the San Blas. So I had this cool idea.
I have a large package (stove) in the states that needs to get here. It’s a boat stove
in a box and not a problem to get onto the plane. My stove is down to one working burner, ARGGGG!
So, If anyone wants a DEEP discount on a week here between the 2nd and the end of the month let me know ASAP. I’ll show you the San Blas for a week for about $600 which would cover my stove and getting it here, maybe a bit less, just a thought, anyone? it’s about a third of what I would charge for a week which is less than half of what other boats charge.
I have two spear guns so if anyone is up for shooting some fish, and I know where the fat fish hide ![]()
Getting here is easy and cheap from the states. You would fly into Panama city and take a 4X4 through the Darian jungle for 2 hours, not a big deal. I can set it up.
Life has been productive and Amazing. The Minimalist Sailor is going to be my best film yet and I’m very excited about it. ![]()
Splendid is also taking shape at the speed of light. Carla and I have focused our efforts on the V-birth as we want to get it ready for charters and guests. I’ve just learned that Carla is a NINJA with the sailrite machine, I can’t believe it! She really does “A” quality work and she just picked up the machine a week ago. Check out the detail of the stitching. She’s done small costume sewing
projects in the past but never anything large like cushions. She is an amazing gal!
I’ve ripped out the V-birth soul (floor) and decided to see if I could bring it back to life with some elbow grease & varnish. It’s good to have SOLID teak & holly soul as opposed to the veneer they use on modern boats.
After a fair bit of scraping & sanding some beautiful wood emerged from the depths of hell.
I’m guessing in under a year of busting ass on Splendid she will be out of “restore” mode and where I want her. I can finally see the field for
the trees!
Well that’s it for today. Even though I’m stupid-broke I couldn’t ask for more. That is what the Minimalist Sailor is all about. Little money, big life, extreme happiness, health, and Love.
I am such a lucky man!
Peace, Love, and Coconuts

Carla posted a new blog today too.
Man we are having a windy night, spent much of the day sailing the dyer midget, it’s a gr8 little boat. I’m really interested to build a nesting Passagemaker:

If anyone has ever buil a stitch and glue boat let me know, I have questions. I’m planning on using sheet fiberglass instead of wood though.
Peace
Is it just me or are no comments being made over the past week?
Yeah, it’s been Quiet.
So funny because I have half a dozen people inquiring about visiting the San Blas and surprised nobody is jumping on it?
Carla is off to Maimi tomorrow and if nobody takes advantage of a cheap charter I’m going to head for linton this week. I have a few projects I’d like to get some parts for and Carla’s mom is Comming in a month and we want to be in linton for that. Shes renting a car and will only be in town for three days.
Hi guys, had a hard time getting into comments, the website asked me to resign in,, thats new!! Been so long I forgot my password,,,Maybe thats why it has been quiet.. Alex wanted to tell you I think I may have found something, I may have a deal that trades my rental house for a 37 ft Island sprit cat, NICE boat… been getting things sold & getting ready for a real change of life… I sure hope the trade works, will do the deal in Nov. I may get to spend Xmas on it, Knowing that makes it really hard to wait.. I was going to have to wait untill the house sold but this is a time saver if it works…One day I may just look ya up & buy ya a beer & we can laugh about how its all your fault, inspration that is, good thing!! Live, love & be happy,, & sail far.. Butch
If anyone else had to log in please let me know.
Butch, that’s AWSOME news! I know you have been trying to make the move for a few years. I don’t know much about cats but hope it all works out for you, my fingers are crossed.
Carla left this morning for Maimi. It so quiet around here!
I’m planning on sailing for linton Saturday if nobody decides to bite on the cheap charter. We are supposed to have wind for a change and sailing there saves me about $60 in diesel.
I need a few pieces of nice wood and a couple of hinges. I’m going to make a collapsable table in the v-birth so I can move my editing suite out of the main cabin and give us the space again so we can sit down to eat or chill at the table.
Raining, thunder, and lightining this morning. Just saw a strike about 500′ to the SW, :(
Peace!
Hi Alex,
Good literature (and your blog) is at it’s best when dealing with the struggle within, the struggle against the elements, and the fight against our inner demons. We all empathise and want to help when the struggle seems the hardest. We all dream of those balmy days with slight seas and 10 to 15 knots on the beam but we can also soon get bored with perfect conditions. When that happens I find myself helming towards a course that puts me closer to the edge. Perhaps thats a flaw within ?. I hope your happiness continues even at the expense of less comments. (A very cheap price to pay)

I had to re-log in and also had to have my password e-mailed to me :P
I lost my ’74 Cal Cruising 35 during TS Debby. The windspeed and direction was much different than forecast, and my anchor chain broke, sending the boat under a bridge. The rig was so strong that it wouldn’t break, but instead tilted the boat on its side until the wave action finally managed to swamp it. Total loss and no insurance…
Wish me luck on starting over before I even began. I had to take out a loan to raise the boat, have it pulled out at a boatyard, and stored for a month while I strip everything still of value off it. Soon I’m going to have to pay to have it crushed.
I feel like a man without a soul.
Seafarer,
My heart goes out for you brother, it really does. Were you onboard for the storm?
I always wounder what I would do if I lost splendid and I just tell myself that I could always get into another boat cheap. Get all the winches & hardware, and hit the pavement. It’s just your path. Im sure it won’t be too long until you make another post here telling us of the amazing boat that just fell into your lap.
I’m so, so, so very sorry M8.
I will keep my eyes and ears pealed for you! If there is anyway I can help please let me know.
Cheers.
