Well I must say Carla’s brother and wife are good people, we are having a blast!
He is a bit of a computer nerd and really set THOR (my new editing computer) up very well.
I was worried about backing my film up and he took it one step further. I have 3 hard drives in THOR. A 1 TB C: drive, and 2, 2TB drives for video. Instead of setting up the 2 TB drives as 4TB of storage the two drives
are mirrored making the drives 2TB, but faster and redundant. When I write a file to my D: it writes it to both of my 2TB drives (mirrored). In case one drive fails, I still have a healthy drive with all my data. Also I will be backing up after each work session and keeping the drive in a pelican case in my bedroom in case my computer gets stolen or something. I like all the security! On my first film I lost nearly 4 months of work and I never want something like that to happen again!!!
Her brother also brought me an early birthday present. He fond an AB Biller 48 special spear gun on Craig’s list for a very good price. I have a JBL 38 special which is a great reef gun, but doesn’t have such good reach in open water. I shot a sierra (super fast) with it yesterday and wow! I really like the trigger mechanism, the extra power, and reach. Carla’s birthday is only 4 days before mine and he brought her a nice keyboard (music) as she wants us to make all our own music for the film. We really
are the sea hippies ![]()
Cruising is settling into my bones once again. I happy to have the bulk of my “must do” list for Splendid behind me. The daily stress of ships work is in my rear view mirror, I LIKE IT! I don’t care so much about the paint job on the hull and its good to be back to thinking creatively and living the cruising life once again.
I do need to haul out and do a bottom job! All my paint is gone and I’m a little worried about osmoses. I wanted to paint the bottom with Copper Coat but I’d be looking at around $1,500 in Copper Coat. Copper coat is a water soluble epoxy mixed with copper dust (not rocket science).
Many people have made home brew copper coat with regular epoxy and copper dust. I hear the trick with home brew is you need to give the whole bottom a good sanding to expose the copper to the water.
If anyone has any ideas or thoughts about making a home brewed copper coat please give me your two cents. id like to open a discussion. I hear some Copper Coated bottoms are still good after 10 years, man I’m all about that!!!!
Well that’s it for today. I have a house full of guests to attend to ![]()
Peace, Love, and Good times.

I looks like you guys are having an amazing time.
I was just reading Carla’s Blog about veggies going bad. I was wondering if you have ever looked in to caning your vegatables and fish? i know fresh is always the best but with caning at least you know what is in it. Just a thought.
Hola Curtis! That’s a great idea! I don’t know much about canning but Alex has been meaning to show me for a while, we live in the middle of nowhere and when we go to the city we need to use the little money we have and the space in our backpacks for food. But we will definitely get some jars as soon as we can.
Alex wants to build a drier too (I love dried fruit!!) but for the time being pickling is saving our precious few veggies and we love sweet and sour! They taste lovely ; )
Thanks for the tip! I had forgotten all about it!

It’s awesome that you two are going to make your own music for the film. The best music from Alex’s last films was him playing guitar on the way to the Marquesas. =)
Hi Guys,
Received my T-Shirt today, it ROCKS !!, my son wanted it as soon as he saw it, so I gave it to him. He is in university and we used to sail on lake Ontario on our Hunter 34.
I hadto sell it, but after my son finishes university in 3 Yrs. I am planing to buy another boat and maybe we’ll see each other out there.
Best wishes
Luis in Toronto
Luis, I’m glad, they are cool shirts. I had a hunter 34 a few boats back. I enjoyed it and sailed it to the channel islands I’n California for many years.
Having a nice movie night with the gang 2night :)
Thanks for your support again !!!!!
Alex & Carla:
Just had to drop in a catch up. Yep. I agree, you guys are having too much fun. Pat & I talk about you often and we share your website with our customers so they can see what’s going on out there.
Summer has kicked in here. Slowing down and getting some projects started. Heading to northern California for the next 10 days to visit friends, families and do a quick gig in Reno. Besides that, just settling in for the summer.
Got that Pay Pal thing up and working again. ;o)
So all is well. Keep in touch and I’ll do the same.

Arrrgggg!!!!
I was chasing a snapper into the shallows In big waves and ended up burning my belly on the fire coral. I washed it with ammonia but still burning like crazy, about to hit it with uber hot compress. Arrrrgggg!!!! It’s blistering. Read about it on the net and supposedly it will take a few weeks to heal.
good to hear your back cruising, got my little ship ready for a two week shakedown cruise circumnavigating Vancouver island BC, concerned about the open ocean side, wish me luck, I leave on the 27th

Hey dude.
the longer ab billers are awesome. my biller 54 is awesome. i haven’t tried it much in open water though. i use it on the reef, and the swing time is a little bit much, but it just makes me have to get crafty and also makes me a better spear fisherman. got some hogs yesterday with it. i nabbed a nice red grouper with my friend’s pole spear the other day, so i decided to take my pole spear out of retirement and bring it along when i’m around really crowded reef areas. the bastard almost drowned me though. he put up quite a fight. he was delicious.
my OTHER friend Alex has the biller 24, and it’s awesome for compact reef areas and crawling around in the mangroves. i think i want to make one.
wish i was there.
see ya soon broseph.
