Three days of hard work and I’ve painted the bow and did the non-skid. If I only had more paint I could finish the boat, ARRRGGG! I’m using mothane and love it, it’s a really good paint and under $100 a gallon. I’ll have to have some shipped to Panama so I can finish the job the way I want to. The second picture is what the deck looked like in the morning sun today. I really cant wait to have Splendid’s hull and decks painted. I’m thinking hard about a black hull. I know, I know, it’s going to be hot. But I’m thinking of painting it black for the same reason they did in the old days. If the inside of the boat is a few degrees warmer then the ambient temp outside it wicks all the moisture out of the boat. When you have asthma like I do and a little boat mold can really set it off you might think the same way. I want a
dry boat. If you have ever cruised the tropics you would know what I’m talking about. I’ve spoke to a bunch of people with black hulls and they all say the same thing, they don’t mind it, not to mention Splendid would look pretty darn sexy.
Our days have been filled with swimming and Guinevere playing with her friends. Sam and I have been knocking out a few projects, I must say life is good.
We are having the drawing for our raffle in May and we have only sold a handful of tickets. If you want to buy a ticket go to the store and purchase the charter donations (we had to call them donations for Paypal). Each $50.00 ticket will be put in a hat and drawn by Guin for a week charter in the San Blas. Trust me, a week in the San Blas is worth every penny of a charter or the risk of buying a few tickets. Any of my previous charters would agree. And every 2 tickets sold gets me a gallon of Mothane, well almost, I’m sure shipping will be a killer.
Peace everyone.
Sail far and live slowly.

Dang, it must feel really, really good to get back out there and relax. Letting it become your LIFE again!!
Thank you for sharing it all with us.
We are cutting the dock lines August 1st. !!!
Peace, love and coconuts with maple syrup (still boiling) Dean s/v Rubaiyat
It does feel good, really good! Everything has slowed way down and the states feels far behind. We are all so excited to continue to the San Blas. Hope to see you out here soon.
I must agree, your baby is looking like a new one more everyday. If the black paint helps your health, well ho are we to say anything different. Have you heard from Darrin lately? He has seem to fall off your comments feed back. Just wondering, for when I look at your deck I think of all the hard work he helped you with to get the decks ready to paint. Alex, continue to set your sails south, let the winds take you to places, your new family has never seen. And if a chance take a few pics for us, yea those ones that will never get to live the life, but we’re so proud of you and all you’ve done and will do. Your dream feel my heart with the tropics and the blue waters that can only been seen in the islands. What a beautyful place. Thanks, Alex.
Nice job Alex, You and I have something else in common. Our ladies like to sail ! That says alot about the captain. We are taking our Catalina 25 down the ICW to Sarasota in May this year. I wanted to sell the boat, but my wife overruled me. LOL Stay safe and have lots of fun.
Well Alex and family…
I’m pretty proud of you guys. Looks like all is well and fresh fish, clean water and the good life is treating you well. I just did my decks and oiled the external wood on Panacea. I had some help and got it done in a week. You’re right lots of work. I used two part epoxy primer and paint. There all white now, and I haven’t done the non-skid yet, I had to rush into a 3 day charter and a 2 dayer back to back to get a deposit in the kitty.
So stay in touch and we’ll continue on. Drop me a direct email and I’ll give yo the site so you can see her.
My best to Sam and Guin and I’m here lurking.
Well I’m taking a sick day today. All this good living has caught up to me. I spent most of the day in bed but I did manage to cut the next video. I should be uploading tonight so keep a look out.
