Good Times, computers & killing fish!

IMG_0569Well I must say Carla’s brother and wife are good people, we are having a blast!

He is a bit of a computer nerd and really set THOR (my new editing computer) up very well.

I was worried about backing my film up and he took it one step further. I have 3 hard drives in THOR. A 1 TB C: drive, and 2, 2TB drives for video. Instead of setting up the 2 TB drives as 4TB of storage the two drives IMG_2585are mirrored making the drives 2TB, but faster and redundant. When I write a file to my D: it writes it to both of my 2TB drives (mirrored). In case one drive fails, I still have a healthy drive with all my data. Also I will be backing up after each work session and keeping the drive in a pelican case in my bedroom in case my computer gets stolen or something. I like all the security! On my first film I lost nearly 4 months of work and I never want something like that to happen again!!!

IMG_2564Her brother also brought me an early birthday present. He fond an AB Biller 48 special spear gun on Craig’s list for a very good price. I have a JBL 38 special which is a great reef gun, but doesn’t have such good reach in open water. I shot a sierra (super fast) with it yesterday and wow! I really like the trigger mechanism, the extra power, and reach. Carla’s birthday is only 4 days before mine and he brought her a nice keyboard (music) as she wants us to make all our own music for the film. We reallyIMG_2554 are the sea hippies Smile

Cruising is settling into my bones once again. I happy to have the bulk of my “must do” list for Splendid behind me. The daily stress of ships work is in my rear view mirror, I LIKE IT! I don’t care so much about the paint job on the hull and its good to be back to thinking creatively and living the cruising life once again.

I do need to haul out and do a bottom job! All my paint is gone and I’m a little worried about osmoses. I wanted to paint the bottom with Copper Coat but I’d be looking at around $1,500 in Copper Coat. Copper coat is a water soluble epoxy mixed with copper dust (not rocket science).

IMG_0584Many people have made home brew copper coat with regular epoxy and copper dust. I hear the trick with home brew is you need to give the whole bottom a good sanding to expose the copper to the water.

If anyone has any ideas or thoughts about making a home brewed copper coat please give me your two cents. id like to open a discussion. I hear some Copper Coated bottoms are still good after 10 years, man I’m all about that!!!!

Well that’s it for today. I have a house full of guests to attend to Smile

Peace, Love, and Good times.
