It’s 3:45am and I’m getting a jump on the day so I may fish later.
My dreams seem to be centered around a freedom motif lately.
In my dream last night I was backing up an old airplane on the tarmac and almost plowed the tail into some other small planes. I was laughing as people were looking at me in horror, I felt elated and happy. This is a good sign.
I am signing a power of attorney to a friend who will fight for my rights and make my legal issues hopefully go away. I do not know how to stand up for myself and fight in a legal arena, I am grateful that I have friends that will do this for me.
My best writing and ideas seems to come to me in the middle of the night when my mind is clearest.
I fell asleep in the hammock last night and woke up cold and being rained upon before moving in around midnight. The stars have become quite recognizable and I just installed a program in my computer so I can learn more about these familiar friends. If you can spend some time (Hours not minutes) with your family doing this it is a much better practice than watching television, not to mention vastly rewarding. And Chuck, I’m not telling anyone what to do, simply making suggestions. And Warren comparing me to Howard Stern on the previous page is probably the single most offensive thing anyone has ever said to me. Don’t take “throwing out the TV” so literally, and I never asked people to throw out their computers. The truth is the TV makes you stupid and bad programming bias and small minded. I love the internet, as it promotes free speech and brings men of the world closer together. Perhaps my ideas often change because I am a thinker and my days are not filled with wake up, make money, pay taxes, watch hours of crap, and fill my body with garbage food before being a “Rock Star” on Nintendo or KILLING, KILLING, KILLING. I spend my days trying to understand the world around me and sharing it with people who in turn compare me to Howard Stern.
I apologized in the log before last about my words of late and I must say the only thing I’m sorry for is using obscenities and ringing the tone of anger into my words. I am not sorry for anything I’ve said or pointing out history. I should not use obscenities for the children that read my site, and for my sponsors that have donated equipment so that I may continue my message. For this I am sorry.
I came home and told my mother a bad word as a child. She sat me down and told them all to me, it made me laugh, I let her know I heard them all in school. She told me that the worst words are “I cant” and that she never wanted to hear them in our home. My mother was a good parent, and that a good lesson.
When I went to the ATM and the ability to put food in my mouth was taken from me after being a “hungry” American for a few months a switch was flipped in my heart and my agenda has changed. If you want to point your finger at me because I’ve lost my “freedom” and unsubscribe that is your business. But my obligation to my readers is to help them find a path to the very thing I seem to have misplaced. Perhaps we can take this journey and find my “freedom” together?
Freedom is such a complicated and illusive partner. I believe I have the freedom to earn a few bucks and put food in my mouth, regardless of the fact that I didn’t file a tax return. I would rather live on a barter system but that is not realistic. I’ve been talking to many cruisers out here and there are not too many that file taxes, they all say the same thing, “I don’t make enough to file”. They have never had problems like this. Was I targeted because of my website?
I also don’t believe a man should be thrown out of his home for not paying property tax. I just asked a Canadian friend if the Canadians do this and he said no. “If you don’t pay your taxes in Canada they will put a lean on your home and when you sell it, you will own them the money, but they will not confiscate it, and it can be handed down to your family” Not exact words, but close. No matter all the problems Canadians seem to be having, owning their homes doesn’t seem to be one of them. As always, please correct me if I’m wrong?
I believe the concept of owning property is really the beginning of the end. I’m reading and studying the declaration of human rights as well and the US constitution. According to the UN, and really just basic human needs, we all have a right to a place to live, a roof, a place to cook, and to deal with our body’s functionality. We also have the right to marriage (love), and the right to travel the world in peace. Indigenousness man shares the land with his brothers, and I believe we (humans) are naturally a territorial species, and thus we fight over land. Why as individuals we feel the need to “own” something we really do not is quite beyond me. Why not fight (with a pen) for the right to live in peace?
I’m going to change the verbiage on the main page of Project BlueSphere as my agenda has changed. My goal is not a “circumnavigation”, or “Interactive travel adventure” but to inspire men of the world to freedom, to ask for only what “we” need, and to promote minimalism and peace.
I am not comfortable with the flag of which I live under anymore. I do not believe in religion, governments, or boarders as they divide men of the world. I believe in human rights, spirituality, and borderless communities as they unite men. I’ve come across something pretty cool, a world passport, and from what I’m reading I really like what it stands for.

For my American readers. We consume six times of the world’s natural resources that we are entitled to, I want you to understand this and be ashamed of it. By doing this we take food out of the mouths of outher people. Recycling is not the answer. For every 6 miles we drive, we must drive 1. For every 6 water bottles we buy, we must buy one. For every 6 hours of air-conditioning we consume, we must only use one. By doing this we will be using our “share” of the worlds resources. At that point we must learn to conserve as the use of fossil fuels is a negative one that pollutes our world and the one we are responsible for leaving our children.
I remember drawing a globe with a crayon and showing Guin how we drill holes in our earth to pump out oil to burn in our cars. She looked at me with innocent eyes and said “No daddy D, we don’t do something like that”.
Ride your bikes, read, play board games with your family and take walks, gaze at the stars and Love!
If you’re up for it take this evening (Warren), read and school your family on the universal declaration of human rights.
http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/index.shtml
This is a system that works, and the beginning of our quest for freedom.
After that, maybe one night next week you could read your children the United States Constitution?
http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html
Speak about it with them and learn more about the rights that have been taken away from us in recent years under the illusion of “protection” and fear.
If you want to just work hard, pay what you must, watch bad TV, eat junk food, or compare me to Howard Stern, please keep your comments to yourself as they are not productive. You are part of the problem and not the solution. If you want to ask questions, learn, and positively commutate please do.
When a forest is over-grown, lightning will strike from the sky, and burn every living thing to the ground. This happens so that life may propagate itself.
We must not fear change and make it our personal responsibility to change a system that beats innocent women and throws innocent Americans into the street. My uncle was not the first, and surly not the last. Pray it wont be your child in 40 years and the home that you leave them. We must not accept this under any terms, nor leave a system like this to our children.
Once again I apologize for the use of obscenities and ringing the tone of anger into my words.
My forest has been burnt. I’ve lost my family and my rights, but I will grow my freedoms once again and hopefully find a women for my side and a child to protect and teach.
Please join me in this journey if you want to learn from my mistakes.

Good Morning Alex:
It’s been a week or so since I’ve checked in, so it looks like I have to go back and catch up to see where this post came from.
Right on Brother… No matter what track you are on, it’s where you need to be. We all take a lot of turns in our lives to complete our journey’s so make your goals and let ’em change. It’s OK. It’s necessary.
I’ve got to go sailing right now. Picked up a couple of days of 6 hour charters. Watching dolphins and trying to explain the Florida oil spill problems and solutions. All in a days work.
Take care my friend. Continue continuing on.

Thanks Paul, I’d hate to loose you as a friend or reader.
Kylee,
Thanks for the Global Research link, some good reading:

“The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government…”Article 21(3), Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
welcome back
As a long time follower of your blog, it’s obvious that you are not in a good place – but that isn’t necessarily bad. All great achievements in civilization and human progress has come as a result of discomfort and pain. We don’t grow when we are comfortable and things are easy – we grow when we have to struggle. Our character is shaped while in the valley – not while enjoying the view on the mountaintop.
I’d only caution: Some folks remain in the valley mired in their problems because they fail to accept responsibility for the the whole of their life – all of it – the good and the bad – even the IRS problems :-). There is great personal power in accepting 100% responsibility…for everything! “I will not be as those who spend the day in complaining of headache, and the night in drinking the wine that gives it”. ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
There are seasons in life … and some of us are in the spring or summer of our lives, and you my friend, are in the winter of yours. The winter is gray, wet, cold, and sometimes it feels like it will never end! Growth and change happens in the winter, and the good news is …when the dark days of winter comes to an end, it gives way to the warmth and the light of the sun and summer … and we appreciate it all the more exactly because we suffered through the opposite.
It seems obvious to me that “Project” Blue Sphere is not about a boat-project, it is about a man-project, or life-project. It chronicles the growth, the thoughts (good and bad), the distinctions, and the revelations of a forty-something guy who just so happens to live a location-independent life on a sailboat.
Alex, you’ve seen the winter before: Failed relationships sewed the seeds for new ones, a night on the beach with a loaded gun lead you to Namaste’, etc. I look forward with great anticipation to seeing where your current struggles lead you. I know it will be a good place

Alex,
The Howard Stearn comment was a joke ment to bring a smile to your face. You are nothing like him, your site has useful and meaningful content; unlike howard stearn! There is no comparison!
I think you are in a good place Alex, and headed in the right direction. I’ve been following along since the beginning and freedom has been your mantra since day one. I too have had my rights taken away by my own country and the society I live in. I’m disheartened by this, but I know there is life beyond these walls. That is what I seek, a different type of life… and I think you are doing the same thing. You’ve been headed in this direction from the start, it’s nothing new. Everytime somebody or something attempts to put walls up around you, you must find a way to get past them and continue in the direction of freedom.
I think you know whats best for you, and don’t believe everything you read, some of us (your readers) actually care about you and follow this blog because we want to know where you are and how you are doing, it’s not about entertainment, and it’s entirely about getting educated either. Those of us interested in learning are probably more adept to learning by example, not by being ‘taught’… Just keep that in mind :) Keep doing what you do, and keep finding you’re freedom.
TYPO. That should read “it’s NOT entirely about being educated”.
Thank you, Alex for your ever constant honesty.
I began reading this blog because It gave me inspiration, it challenged me, as it still does.
So many of us live vicariously through you in our various levels of pursuing our dreams. Sometimes this leads to expecting, and expectation is an emotion that can only leave us empty. Living in the moment is the only place we can find peace, and freedom. I think we all need to remember that, and if in some moments you need to shake your fist at the world, I am behind you 100%. This world, our American system, is not all lollipops and gumdrops. It is the faults of our system that have led most of us to follow you. The breakdown of family values, the hamster on a wheel work ethic, the misplacement of true experience with following other’s lives on the latest sitcom or reality tv series.
We all want the same thing. Expectation is hard to avoid. You have been an escape to so many. We want you to sail far, we want you to meet exotic woman, we want you, like a good book to transport us out of the lives we are so stuck in. But you are not fiction, you are a man, just as prone to falling as the rest of us, but if it were not for falling occasionally would we ever be able to rise up and show what we are truly made of.
This site was incepted from just such a fall and, man, have you risen. I would rather compare it to a winding road(sure the straight paths get us quicker from A to B, but it is in the curves and turns where the real meat is found) than a roller coaster. Do we forget that you’ve been doing this for upwards of a decade? Maybe some would like to for they are still just as far from their dreams.
You are more free than most, but this does not mean you should accept what is given to you. As a long time reader, I realize it is this very tenacity that has inspired so many and gotten you so far. Act, though, Alex, do not react. Do not be baited into defense of thoughts you have more than the right to express. You can sail AND fight the good fight. Boat tips and constructive discussion. For many years you kept talk of policy out of your logs for the sake of keeping a pristine sailing site, but was it not a healthy dissention that allowed you to cut those dock lines in the first place. Let us realize, that to question the powers that be is our obligation as seekers of freedom. That is how this beautiful messed up country began.
We all occasionally go too far in defense, or in some of my fellow reader’s cases, defensiveness, of ideals. Only in your case, these words are written, documented forever, to be critiqued as we all feel fit. I for one, again, thank you for your honesty, and for your fearless laying out of your heart and soul. Go to the San Blas, find your balance once again, incorporate this new more openly political Alex into the gentle giant wandering sailor we all know and love. You CAN accentuate the positive while proactively working to eradicate the negative. Myself and many others will be here when you return

Lets talk excess……… My wife informed me that I had 11 pairs of shoes in the front hall closet. Which I responded to with a look somewhere between derision and disbelief when I went to the closet to see for my self she was correct 11. I have spent the last 3 years trying to consume less and thought I was on top of it. I would say I own 50% of what I owned 3 years ago and my standard of living has actually increased. So saying good bye to 8 of the 11 pairs was easy, I have been saying goodbye to things for awhile but I remember how stuff used to bring me a feeling of security the more things I could buy the safer I was. Man was I wrong!!!! So today my closet became a little bit tidier and the soup kitchen by the hospital has 8 pairs of shoes and boots to give out to people who need them way more than me! We have a little saying on out fridge that reads “dont store it share it”. Maybe have a look around and see what you can share. I also came across our bike helmets so it looks like a family bike ride tonight. Win win
Contrarian,
Thanks man, I feel my winter is coming to an end. I’m just now coming to the realization that I am here of my own hand and trying to get on my feet once again. Splendid has been a lot of work and I don’t know how to single hand her. Physically sailing her is not the issue, its dealing with the absence of the laughter of the ones I love.
Warren,
No harm no foul, but treat people as you wish to be treated. You have insulted me on a few occasions and I think its just bad manners. Your still welcome in my living room : )
David,
Yes, Project BlueSphere has always has been about freedom. Good things grow from a burnt forest, and without our “winters” we would never know the joy of spring. I need to change a few things with my message and I know it has something to do with the fight for human rights. I believe my people are trapped in a dark matrix and need to provide some sort of light. My old friend Nick said “men who know the world see in color, others in black & white”. By no means am I saying I’m better than my fellow man, just that I wish to share what I see, and I see from a different perspective, the perspective of a humble window washer on the 70th floor.
Helper monkey,
Your right not just lollipops and gum drops. I think the beginning of the decline of our great nation happened during WW2, a just war against the Nazi regime and a battle that needed to be fought. But we took our women out of their homes and put them in the work place. The system never returned them home and the “family” system was torn apart, thus the birth of the dual-income American house hold. I remember telling Sam that I was poor however I would never let our family go hungry. I believed in a different way, a path of minimalism. I also told her I never wanted to see her work again and just to spend her life raising her child.
“Action and not reaction” is good advice for me at the moment, thank you.
Wade,
You hit the nail on the head. Lets all think about action today and not reaction. In the last week I believe you could measure me with a short stick. Anger is a weakness I choose to keep to a minimum: ) GREAT quote!!!
Bequiamike
You’re a hero, giving is good for the soul and don’t forget “we don’t own our possessions, they own us”.
I don’t mind making an ass out of myself as long as it gets a few people to think. Please, as a favor to me, read the universal declaration of human rights. Our consciousness must start somewhere?
Hi Alex,
You’ve made quite a few friends out there……I’m one of them. I just wanted to say I’m listening and I care. I’d spout out some upbeat platitudes but I don’t believe I could do a better job than Contrarian did. Nice words from an obviously intelligent and caring person. I’d like to think that for every Warren out there there is a polar-opposite Contratrian. These people are our tribe. We will bear any rant or rave, even if we don’t necessarily agree and we’ll still like you and wish you well just the same. Get some strings for that guitar, try your hand at writing a few. And lean on us when you need us.
And you’re right, that guy that ran the marina in Ft Myers was a dick. ;)

Hi Alex,
I have heard of Howard Stearn but never listened to him, and from what I have read he sounds like a real a
Self-opinionated moron, and will never listen to him. I have not watched TV or listened to the news now for over 3 months and do not miss it one bit!!!!!!!!! What a waist of time it is.
A friend of mine works for Rio Tinto a huge Mining company and they have an Aluminum Smelter in a town called Gladstone which is a about 250 ks from where I am and it mostly makes beer cans, soft drink cans and extruded metal, he told me that it uses more power in one day than the city of Brisbane does,
Brisbane has a population of over 1 Million people and if you go anywhere near the Smelter with a computer
the magnetic energy will wipe your hard drive, how scary is that?
What a wonderful thing life is and we Humans are destroying it at a million miles an hour. Hopefully we will wake up one day and realize the mistakes that we a killing the earth, but I have a feeling that it may be to late and Mother Nature will have it’s revenge on us humans, and luckily those of us who have chosen the ocean to live on may survive, at least we have the option to move where we want to be.
I have read more books and listened to more music than I have in years, the thirst for knowledge, spirituality
and the Freedom that my new life holds makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck and give’s me goose bumps all over.
Today I caught two enormous Mud Crabs and will be having Mud Crab sushi for dinner, I cook my rice in a vacuum flask and am living on a mostly Vegetarian diet now, At night I sit on the deck and look at the stars for hours on end and thank God for what I have.

Ross
Ross,
You’re a real personal hero to me.
Ross is one of the few people, as I’ve been told; that Project BlueSphere has truly changed the course of his life. Ross was the guy waiting for me on the shore in Australia (Brisbane) and extended his hand of friendship as soon as my foot touched the soil. He has fought harder for his little boat (in and out of hospital) than any man I’ve known and if anyone deserves the kiss of freedom on his cheek, it’s my friend Ross.
If everyone unsubscribed, I would still write for you buddy. The more you share here about your new life the better. Please take my pages and share your thoughts, dreams, and experiences as much as you like.
Cheers
I’m on a history kick lately and trying to learn more of my past in order to see the path in front of me. History is similar to a time machine, looking at our past truly does show our future. It amazes me that as a species we are determined, hell-bent actually, to make the same mistakes over, and over, and over again. And the sad thing is our mistakes are getting more severe as time expands. We will perish from this world as we are not healthy or respectful to our mother. That is the simple reality of it.
Our actions, especially as Americans, are atrocious. I know Sam has been back in the system for a while now and refuses to get a car or anything permanent after her time on Splendid, I’m proud of her, I hope sometimes she reads my words.
Our feet will take us to the places we need to go, not the rubber of a tire driven by a machine that feeds on the blood of our earth, perhaps a bike. So when you throw out your television Warren, why don’t you do us all a favor and get rid of your car at the same time?
The only thing that is really making me happy these days is my minimalism and the pursuit for less. I just finished eating my breakfast of freshly made yoghurt, with oats, bee pollen, honey and nuts. After this I will make two loaves of herb bread that will nourish me for the next few days. I need to find a better source of protein and am looking at making tofu on a permanent basis. And yes, I do use a little diesel and propane. I use FAR, FAR, FAR less than my share!
I’m embarrassed that it took me the better part of a decade to spill the beans of why I started Project BlueSphere as stated in my new year’s blog:
neo.projectbluesphere.com/Members/ShipsLog/tabid/115/EntryId/986/The-log-I-should-have-written-from-day-one.aspx
I must be even more honest!
My feelings on my path forward are still the same, truthfully I just don’t know? If you can’t deal with my indecisiveness I’m sorry. I only wish to survive, be free, find Love, have a family, and live. I also wish to be governed by a system that respects my human rights, if I can not find one I will make my own save any fear of repercussion.
Splendid is in good shape to sail (across an ocean), however I am not; I should not make excuses anymore. For the past 6 months doing the dishes, laundry, and keeping the decks clean have been a tremendous chore. I spent a lot of time working on the “Kubota” project which sits unfinished in my lazerette. However I will start my own country and start living by my own laws and beliefs if need be. Perhaps that is where I must start my new life. I’m a “born again” AlexDorseyian!
I guess I have been trying to “seem” like I’m in a better place than I am for a number of reasons. I’ve been embarrassed. Someone told me in a comment to “get over it” with regard to the girls, I will only do so when I’m F’n ready! It made me feel small and weak. I was on a website somewhere recently (sailboat owners, or cruising forms) and someone made the comment that Alex Dorsey was cruising and “begging for money”, again it made me feel small. If your feelings are similar and you really don’t “get it” please unsubscribe. I am not begging for money, nor do I owe any. I don’t wish to be offended by strangers who don’t take personal responsibility for their own lives and produce the copious amounts of plastic that litters my ocean (back yard). Chuck, you’re my friend, but I’ll also tell you what to do with that “BS” flag. You don’t need an 80’ boat to house a crew to look after your children, take it from a crazy guy, less is the new more.
I like that! Less is the new more, you can quote me on that one. Ahhh, I just googled it, I didn’t make it up, but I still like it.
I don’t want excess negativity or bad karma in my world. As far as my subscribers go, I’m willing to loose the friends that I need to loose. I want a quality readership, not a mass one. Perhaps its time to clean house?
The truth is I just want to spend the 4-6 hours a night that I do laying in my hammock staring at the stars. My days are filled with quiet time in Splendid, writing, thinking, and hopefully more spear fishing. I don’t talk to many people or go out. I’m in the chapter in my life of great contemplation. I’m cant even seem to muster the strength to make my paid online videos. My words are one thing; it’s easy to be honest with them. It’s quite a different story in front of a camera.
I guess what I’m trying to say, is that I’m grateful that some of you “get it” and continue to understand what I’m trying to do. I spend about 19 hours a day thinking hard about the world around me. I have no bills, job, or family obligations. Perhaps I’m at the point of going mad, or perhaps I’m on the verge of profound clarity? I’m happy to not be running on a wheel and sheltered from the loud voice of society in this quiet and sacred place.
I will never be able to give the kinds of charters that I want to. If I could become invisible, or a ghost and show sole men the peace and freedom of the sea it would bring me joy as self-realization exists alone on a boat in the sea, or perhaps on a secluded mountain top, or in the vastness of a desert. It exists in nature, not society.
If you seek freedom and don’t have access to a sailboat, or the disposition for the sea take a journey (with your feet) to the most secluded place you can find, even if it takes you weeks to get there. Don’t bring your cell phone. And sit in peace and silence until you don’t have any more food (bring as much as you can), stare at the stars, and listen to your heart. She will not steer you wrong. Find the silence that will spark your heart.
The voice of the television, advertisements, radio, cars, WAR, the bells of a church, the hands of a beggar, the fear from the police, IRS, DHS, CIA, FBI, ATF, DFG, insurance companies, creditors, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Army, and yes, the internet are all in place to do one thing. They are designed to keep you busy, afraid, separated from nature, and working (copper top).
The “System” (matrix) is so powerful and immeasurable that the sound of freedom is the faintest of whispers on a natural breeze that is synthesized through your air conditioner and muted by the hummm of your microwave, TV (on or off), DVD player (yes I have one), security system, stereo, and all the other crap that binds you to a world separated from nature.
The truth is “we the people” of the world need our workers. Not many of us have the disposition, or inclination for freedom. I do. My friend Ross does. The question that keeps you up at night, and why you keep reading my words is, do you?
In regards to women being a sailor is a funny thing. Women are drawn to us. Women naturally seek safety so they may nest and provide an environment to raise their children. I believe women instinctively know (in their hearts) that “safety” exists in freedom, thus they are attracted to sailors save their age. If you knew the men in the anchorages of the world you would notice most of their wives or girl friends are close to half their age, attractive, and more than fertile. This is also a good indicator as why so many men want to go cruising and their wives do not. The women have a false sense of security, feel safe, and are not as willing to accept the risk of change. Ladies, I’m sorry, but we are not equal. The relationship between man, woman, and child is the most basic beautiful system in the world. It is only recently in my life that I have experienced it, and it changed who I am. I am still dealing with the repercussions of loosing it.
The system has F’d us on so many natural levels its mind boggling. The system is burning down the natural family structure. What is next? A totally committed eusocial society?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eusociality
Tell me I’m wrong, I’m all about debate. But please no more insults, they are not productive, discourteous, not to mention they make you look really stupid. Being aggressive towards me because you are not happy with you own life only propagates negativity and digs your personal hole deeper.
I want to see more people taking the time to talk and debate with me, if you have a moment please comment. I’m not just looking for praise, just the truth, and perhaps some insight.

Well, Alex, I don’t have anything to debate you about, because you and I are in one accord regarding the mass-deception caused by the matrix and the devastating negative effects of being “plugged” into it. I agree wholeheartedly with your perceptions of the world around us, the importance of minimalism, and benefit of living lightly.
Most folks spend their best hours working at the behest of the “man”, then unwind at the end of the day by squandering their few remaining hours getting programmed by big corrupt corporate media (TV) to continue running on the gerbil-wheel. They wake up and do it all over again. Wash and repeat.
There is no doubt the mass of men have lost their way because they have lost consciousness. Their routine has numbed their mind and the remaining neurons that are still firing generate such little voltage they can’t get out of their own way.
You my friend, live outside the matrix, and thus, don’t suffer the direct effects (see above). But that doesn’t mean you aren’t subject to the reach of the matrix. People who are “plugged in” can reach you through your blog comments section, the IRS is part of the matrix and as you have seen it’s tentacles reach far and wide, the women you meet feel the pull of the matrix and struggle living outside of it. You see my point?
My observation (for what it’s worth) is you are at your best (and most happy) when you are traveling or planning your travels. When you are consumed with your boat, preparing her for voyaging, and or connecting with the natural world around you, you seem to me to be completely fulfilled.
On the other hand, when you are trapped in an anchorage in some less-than-optimal place, dealing with people who are hopelessly lost to the matrix, reading/responding to negative energy, or potting a plan to create a new world order/country, you are not at your best … because all of those things are negative. In your heart you know this to be true, and perhaps part of your restlessness and anxiety comes from your intuition that is telling you that you are getting sucked back into the matrix.
So Alex, my only debate or quibble with you, is NOT with your philosophy about life, it is with your current life-focus. I think you need to make a choice. Either: Go sailing, or stay and fight. You cannot effectively do both. One path leads to positive and peace, the other leads to negative, angst, and stress.
If say, “can’t just sail away and not speak out against the worlds injustices”, I am hear to say, YES YOU CAN! If you are worried about spreading your message of freedom, minimalism, simplicity, and benefits of living outside the matrix, then go sailing … your life will send this message! Your example is our inspiration and your adventures is our teacher. Living your life while traveling the world is the greatest motivation there is. Be the light you want to see in the world.
Talk is cheap … don’t focus your energy on telling us about the empty life inside the matrix, instead, show us the rich and rewarding life you are leading outside of it! St. Francis of Assisi said, “Go into all the nations and preach the gospel, and if necessary use words”. Words (blogs) are the last resort … not the first.
Inspire us, Alex … unplug, pull up the anchor, and go sailing!

I like you Contrarian :)
I must write a decree of which I am to be self-governed before I go anywhere; I’m working on it now. You are right. I don’t wish to “take on the matrix” simply to eliminate it with my lifestyle and move forward.
I’m rebuilding my freedom from the ground up and hope my friends will understand, and in turn, find their own freedoms.
Helper monkey said it best and are words I will live by. “Take action, not reaction”. Words our government need to contemplate and comprehend. I am guilty of “reaction” and this is why I’ve lost my family. I will learn from my mistakes.
The matrix is the easiest of villains to slay as it only exists in our minds. Our minds however are delicate and pliable, and we must be cautious as to what we let penetrate them, and take full responsibility for the energy we let enter the minds of our children. I hope to have a child one day and be responsible for this. As soon as we stop believing in the “matrix” it is powerless.
A man in prison has the ability to be free. There is a thread to our lives which may not be unwound by anyone; it is our sprit, character, and concessions. This is what we must realize, this is what I’m realizing, and this realization makes me indestructible. The human spirit is unbreakable, even though life is not!
Moving forward I must fly a flag that I believe in, living under anything else would be false to my heart. I may fly a small American flag underneath my new “formation” in hope of change for my home country, but I will not be governed by a system that takes life and human rights away from people on such a mass scale. I do however have the ability to move forward, and that is my intention.
I will not be measured by my weakness! I hope my readers will live by the same decree.
I really like the concept of the World Government of World Citizens.
http://www.worldservice.org/docpass.html
I may get this passport and fight/debate with customs of various countries for my right to freely travel the world by it as I do not wish to be judged by the political agendas of my birth country anymore. Many countries have stamped this passport and more are recognizing it daily.

This is the winter of my discontent; it is also a winter passing, and I will soon flourish in the spring of enlightenment.
Thank you for your words and time to communicate with me.
They have been helpful.
Hey Alex,
I don’t usually post comments on your blog entries but the last couple really made me concerned about your well being and happiness. They also made me think quite a bit about my life and my general philosophy about life.
To me it seems that humans spend an awful lot of time fighting for their freedom. Countless wars have been fought over it, rivers of blood have been spilled in support of it and an endless parade of philosophies have been borne from it.
But the way I see it, human beings are not particularly well suited to freedom. Ask the Roman slave, he will tell you freedom is a day without heavy chains in the garrison. Ask a medieval serf, he will tell you it is a piece of land he can till, tend and make a living from. Ask an American making $55,000 a year, he will tell you it is a paid off mortgage and credit card debt. And ask a middle east dictator, he will tell you that not looking over his shoulder for a plot to overthrow him is the definition of freedom.
The truth is that freedom is an idea of the future without the troubles of the past. It is eight parts hope, two parts wishful thinking and one part fleeting reality. It can be had, but not held – present only for that little sliver of time until someone finds another ‘freedom’ to wish for.
As Jack Sparrow once said, what really matters is what a man can and can not do. For example, you can obsess over the unfairness of the IRS, the manic hegemony of the United States and the general putrid misery that pours from every autocratic government that peppers our little 21st century planet. Or, alternately, you can let this whole mess go and focus on your future.
I suggest door #2. It offers a much grander possibility of freedom.
PS – Also, you should find yourself a girlfriend, even if it’s a crappy girlfriend. It’s much better to wake up as a 65 year old, contemplating divorce than a 65 year old, contemplating suicidal loneliness… Just my two cents bro.
Peace, love and coconuts,
Andy
Andy,
good point, but no contemplating suicidal loneliness here.
As I said, not all have the predisposition to freedom but luckily some of us still do. Like in the movie ants, there is always that one that will wonder. I want to lend a hand to the ants that want out!
As far as girls when my ex (Alexandra) came there just wasn’t anything there. Its like my readership, I want quality, not quantity. Being a white guy in Panama having a girlfriend is really the last of my problems. Being true to my beliefe system is. When your going to work every day $hit like this seems really inconsequential, when you live a life like I do it’s monumental.
I’m not at all concerned about growing old alone. I just want a certain quality of life. That is going to take dealing with my passport, and banking. I don’t like having the ability to feed myself taken away from me, I take it quite seriously. I don’t just have another credit card in my wallet to whip out, you probably do. There is no soup kitchen on my corner or Mommy or Daddy to bail me out. When the IRS takes my last dime I go fishing.
I live with little and take responsibility for it and want to ensure my safety going forward, that’s all.
So your definition and my definition of “freedom” are probably quite different. I don’t want to be a Roman slave, or a modern one making 55k a year.
I just seek peace and a place to raise a “good” girlfriend and family :)
Andy,
And freedom in my book is far from “an idea of the future without the troubles of the past”. Its about responsibility for our future, save the troubles of our past. And worth spilling blood over we are a rapidly evolving species.
It’s about the idea that a mans reach can exceed his grasp, and we can evolve into something…, better.
If your comfortable on the couch its all good, I’m not, and dont think all men should be slaves.
Perhaps you should live with the indians for a while? They will teach you much about freedom. But door number two is a good option. A “crappy” woman is not.
We need more Yodas and less mice :)

What I said there was a 80′ boat for sail Cheap and jokingly said it was for the crew, this coming from a man who couldn’t take being on Your other boat Namaste and had to move up to the boat your in now, a 43′ boat is it? Oh by the way my boats 43, same as yours but unlike you the four of us are happy on our boat. Cheers
Just a light hearted suggestion :), too much internet is not good for you either. Need to unplug sometimes there too.
Chuck,
I’m really happy the 4 of you guys are happy. Yoru right, I went to a doctor, and I have DVD’s on my boat. and I moved from a 28 foot boat to a 40′ boat. I still dont understand why you feel the need to be aggressive and try to insult me on my website? Did I ever go into your living room and tell you you were full of $hit in front of your family? This isint how friends treat each other buddy? Especially after i’m obviously in a bad place. And thank you for pointing out that your “happier” than me. that is really nice of you?
Whats your deal, bad tequila or something?
markvnuk,

Alex,
You are one of my personal heroes so I say this with all the respect and good intentions that I can possibly offer. I believe I speak for many of your silent readership when I say that over the past few months you’ve become a different person.
This started when your girlfriend left, when you became agitated and lashed out in some ways that would have been better kept private. While this sort of phyric emotional immolation is understandable, (shit man, done it myself a few times,) in the end, somehow you did not find a way to recover from the emotional blows. Instead you’ve continued becoming more and more emotionally volatile. Your writing has become frustrated, even desperate at times. While consistent thematically, some of your message has become more and more edgy and dogmatic.
I get it. I really do. Some MAJORLY shitty things were done to you by a lot of people who should have been better, who should not have let you down. You feel frustrated and betrayed by everyone. Again, I get it.
The problem is that while many people deal with this just as you have – disconnecting from society and living an alternative life style – it seems to me that you’re not really happy at all. You’re still angry even though you’ve gained the sort of independence that many can only dream of.
And this is why I think many people are upset. You used to be happy, positive, drizzling rainbows and puppy hugs at everyone. Even when you had hard times, you didn’t dwell on it any longer than to explain it to the camera and move past it. You had a message and you lived it.
But now, with this whole crazy IRS and passport thing, it’s become clear that something in your life needs fixing or you’re headed for some major personal trouble. You really need to consider whether the lifestyle is working for you or against you. You need to re-read some of your posts and see if what I’m telling you is true.
Anyway, this is the last time I’ll bring this up. I have nothing but respect for you and will support whatever you end up doing, even if I don’t agree with it. And if you ever need to talk or to just have someone to yell at, I’m always available. I just hope to get the old Alex back.
Cheers,
Andy
Andy,
Florida Andy, right?
How did I “lash out” in an inappropriate manner?
I really don’t think you get it but that’s cool. You seem to want to make me out to be “suicidal” and heading for “major personal trouble”, and “emotionally volatile”, but that is just not the case. You seem to be pointing out some obvious things that have been said? Don’t worry about me; I’ve just had a really crappy 6 months filled with a complicated break up, dental issues, Jaw and nasal infections, not to mention the sister/uncle issues, and the final IRS thing. $hit happens, its life. Your right, my writing is probably “edgier”, it’s a good thing, and at least I like it. At least I have the luxury of time to sit under the stars and make informed decisions about my future, this brings me great happiness.
You seem young, but I think anyone will tell you life has its ups and downs. I’m just at the tail end of a crappy 6 months. And my “anger” rightfully erupted with the IRS seizing my bank account. I think most of my readers will tell you they would be pretty damn mad in the same situation. For me it is amplified as my only bank account (no credit cards) is the only way I can access funds from paypal, if my bank is turned off I am in a foreign country with access to nothing. And no, I’m not desperate, although a bit sad about the mistakes I’ve recently made.
Should we keep all these things private? I think keeping things “open”, so as men we can understand each other is as important as not accepting slavery as you pointed out. Men have been communicating with each other for as long as man has been around. That’s how we learn, from our brothers, and from “our” collective mistakes. Unfortunately so many learn from the television now, and really makes people passive aggressive, not to mention subservient.
Just sharing my crazy, unconventional life.
I understand your motivation and concern though, thank you.
Cheers
Alex ,
Thank you so much for your kind words and project has been such an amazing impact on my life.
As Alex has mentioned on a number of occasions i have spent quite a few years in and out of hospital
after a serious accident and may operations later on my left arm ended up with a condition called
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome or Also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome,
which is a condition that tends gets worse rather than better.
I would love to hear from anyone that is aware of the Disease and if they know of any treatments for it.
There does not appear to be any conventional western treatments that i have found and nor any Eastern treatments as well.
If anyone has any knowledge of the Disease please let me know.
