Project BlueSphere

Land and Sea

My buddy Ross

ross Project BlueSphere has been such an amazing experience for me. I had no idea when I started it that it would have ever grown into the positive influence in my life that it has. I’ve been up, down, and all around. I believe I’ve been honest and not producing a “look at me I’m sailing” website. Many people over the years have also told me that Project BlueSphere has been a positive influence in their lives as well, Ross was one of those guys.

Ross also had difficult times of Love and physical hurdles to conquer. He has fought so very hard to rid his life of needless things, seek freedom, and the means to get his own boat, and finally he has. Today Ross, my hats off to you buddy, you did it! I’m really proud of you! We will make plans to meet in Malaysia!

When I crossed the Pacific and was entering Brisbane Australia I was so very sad with tears in my eyes and on my cheeks. My last mile on Namaste was behind me and I was venturing out into the world with a few bucks in my pocket and no idea where, or what I was to find. Namaste had taken me so far and given me so much, loved her. Ross was waiting on the dock for me in Brisbane with the hand of friendship extended, the promise of a great steak, and a place to stay. I’m always a stranger in a strange land, not to mention a pretty damn strange man to begin with. Namaste went to a great new owner who is another good friend and I’m happy that you have Namaste now Wojtek, take care of her. You need to take her for that “spin around the block”!

On the last blog Rguffy asked everyone to donate just $5, the problem is if you all did I’d get fat, lazy, and end up in a marina. I have plenty, and everywhere I go I find people like Ross. Thanks Rguffy for the support but I am all ready a man sailing the world with freedom at my fingertips, fish in my belly, and so many experiences behind and in front of me. Truly, what more could I ask for? I am blessed! I did get a $100, a $50, and a $5 dollar donation this morning and I have to thank you for that.  I’m going to go buy a SCUBA tank and finish my rig to spray paint Splendid. I also saw an ad for a $99 camera and I’m going to take a look at it so I can start posting some pictures of my projects and this beautiful place. Getting support from friends like Ross, Captain Paul, and so many others make it all worth while. By the way if you want to go for a sailing adventure in Florida check out his website by clicking on the Florida gulf coast charters link (photo of sailboat) on the left of the screen. He does a great job and knows the keys really well. He’s also a great guy to be around.

I’m excited to have a computer coming so I can start editing and posting video again. The miles from the states down here along with the humid jungle environment have been really hard on my electronics. I cant seem to get more than a few years on a computer or camera. Another thing I’ve realized is I didn’t have a sine-wave inverter and dirty power chews up sensitive electronics, its good for power tools but that’s about it. A friend gave me a nice sine-wave inverter which I finally got around to installing a few weeks ago. I’m hoping it will be kinder to my electronics and I can get more miles out of them.

I went to Colon yesterday to deal with my friends cruising permit as they had to go to Panama city to make some very hard decisions about their unborn child. Tonight I got a great text, the problem they had disappeared and they got the thumbs up to continue the pregnancy and take it to term. What a scare, today was a good day! Well…, my bus almost crashed as it slid down an embankment on the side of the road, how it didn’t fall on it’s side amazes me, it had to have been on two wheels for a few seconds. I looked to my left to see what was going to fall on me and there were two extremely large women in the seats across from me. Not a good situation as they would have had a good 7 feet of momentum behind them, it was a good scare and got my heart going.

I’m excited with my new wealth and will go to Panama City in a few days. I hear I can get good  two part polyurethane for around $50.00 a gallon. Good spar varnish down here is only twenty bucks a gallon and I need to pick up one of those as well.

Thanks Luis, Robert & Richard for the donations. A little goes a really long way down here.

Peace, Love, and Ross & his new boat!

You go buddy!

It’s good not to be squished on a bus!

  1. Alex, You have so many buddies that you’ve never met. We’ve chatted a few times and you included me in the mast-step-deal from Ohio. Living vicariously through you and some significant life events have caused me change paths and start living too. After spending the last 20 years as a paralegal in the middle of Indiana, I am entering an accelerated nursing program so I can migrate to the coast and be near my mother ocean. You don’t have any idea how much inspiration and enjoyment you’ve shared, not only with me, but I’m certain there are many others. Thank you my friend.

  3. Alex, I have read your story from the beginning. I would love to cut the lines and set sail. I clearly see how you support yourself because you share all the details. How to other people manage to make money while traveling. I would love to be able to make enough money online, because I could do that from anywhere in the world.

Congrats Ross! If you start a blog post the link, I am sure many here would read it too.

  4. Alex:

Thanks for the plug for the charters here in FL. It’s a pleasure to be one of your sponsors. People are starting to check the site. I’ve got a couple of calls and I’m looking forward to getting some folks out on the Gulf to play a bit.

I’m just leaving MN on Monday to get back to Panacea and the Gulf Coast. Weather is getting good and the fronts are bringing in some wind. It’s time to go sailing again. It’s been a couple of months.

You’ve got a bundle of friends out there that will be heading down your way to get the hands on sailing that you can give. I’m going to look for a hole in my schedule myself. Airfare is reasonable and I can bring down some stuff from the States.

Thanks for the call the other day and I’ll be in touch. Get that cam and document the work you’re doing. It helps when I cut into stuff myself…

  5. Capt Paul no problem brother, you have helped out so much. If you do come down my friend in Florida has my linear drive for my auto pilot, I really need to figure out how to get that as well, may just pop for the fedex? Splendid is a lot easier to handly with an autopilot :)

  6. You got it Amigo. We’ll work it all out from the States side. Drop me an email to the CaptPaul@FantaSeaSailing.com address and give me any contact information of people you want me to contact so we can get it all in one place and see how to get it there.

Best to you and call when you want if you want to talk direct about this stuff. You’ve got my number.
