Land and Sea

Sick

Sam and I have been a bit under the weather for the past week. We have had a low grade something and motivation to do anything but watch movies and lay in bed has taken over. We are on the up-side of it and are planning to go to Panama city on Monday. We have some provisioning and shopping to do for our charter which is coming on the 19th, and I need to get some racor filters and some new fins for Sam.

After our charter Sam is going back to the states for 2-3 weeks and I’m going to get a bunch of boat projects done while she is gone, assuming I don’t have any more charter work.  If anyone is a good sander and wants to trade some time on Splendid for work let me know. I need to fair (sand) the toe rail and the part of the hull where we glassed it up. I also need to take out the chain plates out and do some work. There is a fiberglass base that used to be flush with the wood decks but now sits about a quarter inch off the deck. I need to pull the chain plates and grind the base flush with the deck, replace the plates and 5200 them in so they don’t leek. I need someone, maybe 2 people to work 4-5 hours a day for about a week. I don’t work in the afternoons as it is hot and my work day is from about 7 to 1pm at the latest. The rest of the day is for fishing or snorkeling.

I’m amazed at how many of the boats that were here 5 years ago are still here. I keep bumping into friends, it’s nice.

I’m in the process of stripping and varnishing the cockpit table and need to get a coat of varnish on this morning. I’m also making an awning for the foredeck out of the old staysail. I want to be able to keep the forward hatch open during rain and have shade for our morning yoga and afternoon snoozes in the hammock. It will also act as an extra rain catcher.

As soon as we get back from Panama City I want to get back to the San Blas. I’m going to try and get a cellular modem in Panama so I can upload pictures & logs from the San Blas. The cellular is all pre-paid here and you can get unlimited internet through the cellular carrier for $15 a month, it’s a pretty good deal I think. The service in the San Blas is spotty and slow but doable.

It’s so nice to be back here:)

Cheers from Splendid.

Sail far and live slowly.
