Who sez I’m afraid of commitment?
I’m alone In a 28 foot boat 1000 miles off shore burning up all my fuel looking for wind, that’s commitment! Isn’t it?
I spoke to some other boats on the SSB last night. They all had the same thing to say “go south, no wind until 4.5 degrees south”. I’ve been steaming a course of 220 for the past 12 hours. I’m barely at 3 degrees. The sea is glass and there is a very gentile swell from the south-east. I’d be surprised if there was a breath of wind for 200 miles.
I need to find the trades. I bet this is a La Nina thing!
I’m just having coffee and Oreos.
I’ve come to notice that I find the smooth running sound of my motor comforting and it puts me to sleep. I’ve been sleeping like a tot for the past 10 hours.
The current to the west is weakening, I must find wind!
My buddy Paul on “Gato Go” is at 8 degrees, reefed up in 20kts and making good way.
This is turning out to be a bit of a chess game. If I don’t find wind in the next 48 hrs I’ll have to make the call to drift and conserve fuel. The sea is a strict professor.
I’m sorry I can’t reply to everyone’s instant messages. The instant messages are more for “Making a statement”, and the email part of the website for asking questions. I get the emails on land. But I love the statements; they keep me sane through out the day.
I’m just realizing I’ve been a bit under the weather. My glands are a bit swollen and I’m feeling a tad weak. I think all the stress of leaving finally caught up with me.
I’m going to take an easy day reading and drinking tea.
Cheers everyone.
Peace, Love, and Trade wind.
Alex
