Land and Sea

LAND HO!!!

Not much sleep last night.

I’ve been up drinking coffee all night, blaring rock and roll “Riding the storm out”, and freshly sailing on the faces of squalls.

The squalls have been back to back, and the larger ones blowing over 20kts. I have no reefs in as I’m trying to make time. Namaste and I have been averaging 5.5 – 6.5 knots all night. I can almost do this in my sleep now!

The sun is just coming up, the seas are lively, and I feel so very alive!

Just as the light was washing away the blackness, a black spot stayed on the horizon. Squinting, I was taxing my eyes to see through the rain.  I never expected to notice Hive Oa from 30 miles out, “is it real…”, “yes”, a huge volcanic island! A moment later I noticed the Island of Mohotani on my port side.

I hate to admit it because I’m such a tuff and burly sailing machine, but I was in tears, crying like a baby. The rain washed them from my face, and only the sailing Gods could hear my laughter as I howled at the morning sky.

I really don’t know what to say. I feel so small. I’m just a tiny speck on this vast ocean, but this little speck is sailing into Traitors Bay, and anchoring in the Taahuku anchorage today!

I’ll write more tonight, I want to go back out and gaze at my beautiful prize.

Wow…, God I feel good!
