Sam-Jana just left -we had a wonderful visit and had.unch at a beautiful outdoor restauranmt surrounded by trees anf flowers–the visit was short but we did get caught up on all the news and i know she has a limited time ro catch up with relatives and friends,-the weather is turning hot and we have not even needed air conditioning this month until today would lovr to hear from you—love toall–bubby flip

Alex,
I have had lazy jacks for a number of years, they run through a couple of small blocks at spreader height then down to two cleats on the mast at the goose neck level. When sailing I bring them forward to the reefing horns on the boom, tighten them up and they are out of the way. you can then sail as if they wern’t there. If room and time are on your side then turn head to wind, pull on the lazy jacks and let the main drop. This way you can use them if you want to or not use them at all.

I'm going to play with the lazy jacks a bit more. I do have to figure out how not to have to point dead into the wind every time I want to adjust the main, it makes me crazy and it's unsafe. When i want the sail down, I want it down if you know what I mean. I'm also going to look into building a stack-pac. It is hard to get the cover on and off. The rig needs a bit of tweaking and I also need to make friends with it. I could sail Namaste in my sleep. Most importantly i could reef quickly when I needed to.

We have a full bat main and lazy jacks with stack pack combo… I just put a couple of little blockes at the top where it meets the spreader and now I can easily drop the jacks and raise them as i want to… it was an easy fix and has been absolutly no problem since.

You should consider getting your next main cut roachless without battens. Then you could keep the lazyjacks and you can raise or lower your sail on any point and keep the lazy jacks. it worked for the Pardeys….just a thought. Let me know when and far offshore you’ll be when you bypass Charleston SC. I just got a new boat and need a good excuse for a little offshore sailing. Brandon

I was considering lazy jacks or a stack pack combo ,as i am tired of my main sail splilling over on the bimini , its fairly new and i have a hard time flaking it on the boom , how will you tame your main single handed with out something to catch it?

Have you considered putting bungies on your lazy jacks to pull the lazy jacks ‘open’ at the spreaders?
just a thought.
