The replicas of the Nina and the Pinta are comming to Petoskey Michigan. A few years ago the Nina came to town and docked right next to my slip. Talk about cool!!! They are really something to see. It is very hard to believe people sailed off the edge with these ships. In person they really aren't that big, at least not as big as we were led to believe as children. They built the Pinta more recently (a couple years ago) to accompany the Nina on her journeys. They were both built in Brazil totally by hand and with NO power tools. They are open for tours during the day for a few dollars. I'm not sure where they will be going from here but if you ever get a chance, go see them. When they get here I will take some video and post it on my you tube channel : blowinganddrifting I will post back here when I do so.
Oh yeah, one thing that blew me away was the massive tiller on the NINA .
Anybody seen it/them? Dean
I wish we could post pictures in this forum :(
