Flare gun inserts and the ATF

I just got my new Lats & Ats/Seafaring magazine and inside is an extensive article on flaregun inserts.

I read this article before I even read BOB's editorial!!!

The ATF actually contacted Orion and got some of their guns, made their own inserts (copied ones you can buy) and fired them.

Appears eventually they all broke off at the hinge.  They consider them an acutal gun if stored together, all laws apply.

My thought is, I won't be using one of those in the US, I have my own registered gun :)   but if out of the country I would consider an insert, stored seperately of course.  Ya Know, an emergency is an emergency, people always seem to think you are going to shoot another person, what about a shark or something, maybe just holeing another boat?  What ever.     Or just a slingshot maybe.

What a topic, what a Country!!

Re: Flare gun inserts and the ATF

I plan to carry a flaregun and a Mariner shotgun. The Mariner shotgun will be extremely well hidden for port inspections. Supposedly, rifled slugs can be accurate to 100 yards.

I would also like to carry a .22 rifle and pistol for collecting small game (like chickens). I like the offerings from Walther.

A speargun and a bow-and-arrow might be useful too, both for collecting game and discouraging theivery.
